The Challenge

FORTPRO  sells products in more than 25 countries and is expanding its dealer network in the Middle East, South America and throughout the world. The company experienced tremendous growth in its e-commerce business over the last three years, and as FORTPRO’s e-commerce business expanded, they needed help managing the subsequent increase in parcel package shipments.

  • Space utilization and capacity
  • Product Flow
  • Limited Technology
  • Inadequate Inventory Control

FORTORO was also outgrowing their Miami warehouse and they needed additional help improving the efficiency of their facility in a market where adding new physical space is extremely expensive. For help solving this and other logistics challenges, the company turned to UPS, one of the world’s largest logistics companies.

Innovative Solutions

To help FORTPRO improve the efficiency of their operations, UPS Customer Solutions took a comprehensive approach, which began with a thorough site survey and a detailed report highlighting the company's operational challenges.

The consulting team provided recommendations that not only helped resolve blocked aisles and increased storage capacity, but also enabled the company to store twice as much inventory as before.

UPS used a velocity analysis to create a heat map for product slotting and flow. By adjusting rack positions and segregating the picking and pallet zones, FORTPRO increased throughput, efficiency, and storage capacity—leading to higher revenue.

Project Outcomes

The collaborative efforts of UPS Customer Solutions helped the distributor eliminate blocked aisles and freed up storage capacity, allowing FORTPRO to carry twice the inventory previously stored.

  • Doubled inventory value by rearranging pallet positions
  • Separating storage area from picking area increased fulfillment rate
  • Improved inventory control and pick efficiency using velocity principles
